ETHEREUM CASINOS AND THE GAS PROBLEM
Twelve second blocks, twenty confirmations, four minutes of chain time. Ethereum is quick to settle and unpredictable to pay for, and the second half is why it is rarely the right choice when a cashier offers something else.

Cashiers carrying ether are overwhelmingly offshore, which buys speed and costs recourse. There is a second cost specific to this rail: the fee is set by an auction you are not part of, so the price of a withdrawal is decided after you request it.
Ether moves fast. Slots close every twelve seconds and a cashier waiting twenty deep is asking for about four minutes, which is a fifth of what Bitcoin's two confirmations cost. On chain time alone ETH is the better rail.
Then there is gas. The fee is a bid for block space denominated in gwei and paid in ether, and it is set by demand from everything else happening on the chain at that moment. A quiet Sunday costs a dollar. An hour when something popular is minting costs fifteen, for the identical transfer.
The result is a rail whose speed you can plan and whose cost you cannot. For a C$2,000 withdrawal that is irrelevant. For a C$60 one it is the difference between a good rail and a bad one.

Twenty confirmations, and why cashiers picked that number
Ethereum finalises in two epochs, which is roughly thirteen minutes, and a transaction twenty blocks deep is overwhelmingly unlikely to be reorganised before then. Cashiers land on twenty because it is well past the practical risk point and still measured in minutes.
Deeper waits exist and they are not about the chain. A cashier waiting an hour on ETH is running a compliance step, not a confirmation count.
The address format is the same forty hex characters after 0x on every chain that speaks the same machine language, which is exactly the trap in the next section.
The same address on the wrong network
An 0x address looks identical whether it belongs on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon or BNB Chain. The wallet will accept the paste. The cashier dropdown is the only thing that decides where the money actually goes, and a transfer sent on a network the receiving side does not watch is not lost in a recoverable sense so much as parked somewhere nobody is looking.
Read the network label before the address field. If the cashier lists only one, that is the one. If it lists several, the cheapest is rarely the one preselected.
Test transfers are worth the fee the first time. Send twenty dollars, watch it arrive, then send the rest.
Ethereum sports betting
Books accepting ETH are a small slice of the Canadian market and the rail does nothing to the price of a bet. Hold is hold. What ETH buys at a book is a settlement path with no bank hours in it, which matters most on a Sunday night when a ticket settles and a bank transfer would sit until Tuesday.
Against USDT there is one real difference and it cuts against ether. A winning ticket paid in ETH is exposed to price from the moment it leaves until the moment you convert. A stablecoin is not. Bettors who keep score in dollars generally want the rail that keeps score in dollars.
